Maria Venus Raj: The Top Story on Print and Web

After the news had been broke on the television and internet, people from all over the country kept on  talking about the dethroned beauty queen Maria Venus Raj. Venus is now one of the country's top issues. After all, it is really that unfair to dethrone her because of the inconsistency on her statements and birth records.

This past few days, if you're into Yahoo!Philippines, Venus Raj is ranked number 1 of the top searches on the said site.  In Google, once you typed the letter "V", automatically the name Venus Raj will be the first suggestion for your search. Aside from these, a very conspicuous place for Raj's issue are the newspapers, tabloids and still online newspapers which people can get access on streets and even at home.

Talking about newspaper, the Gulf times (Qatar's top selling English newspaper) has already the cover about the issue having an article named Philippines pageant winner loses crown. But it seems that they just treat it as a minor one which you can that they even didn't react that their country was one of the contents of the news.  One very insulting term was used by an Australian news site calling the beauty queen as illegitimate. The artcle was named Illegitimate beauty queen Maria Venus Raj loses Miss Philippines title. Maybe they just used this term to tag the dethronement issue. Fans however are very happy that the news  reached overseas. And if your going to search for the name Maria Venus Raj on the sites of our top selling newspapers, you will surely get articles regarding her dethronement.

Raj's supporters are also in the spotlight. The Inquirer has an article on their site about the support for Venus. An article named Friends support dethroned beauty queen shows the comments and reactions by fans from the social networking site Facebook. From the locality of Bicol now in the national arena; The Manila Standard Today has the article Miss Philippines-Universe loses title made the fans and supporters of raj very overwhelmed because they were heard to a higher level.A very fulfilling part of the supporters of Venus was when they were heard in the international scene. Team Venus's fan page was in the France Radio Internationale's article named Philippine entry kicked out of Miss Universe contest. The said site was included  in order to let the public know about the online petition on Facebook. and maybe to promote for Raj's crown.

Newspaper can never defeat blogs. Bloggers who were really up to date and willing to posts became the main source about the issue. Where in these blogs you can view several opinions of people and majority of these people are against the dethronement of the beauty queen. Try to search some blogs, and an assurance of 110% that you will find a story about Venus Raj.

If we are going to think it over, it is really not a good ground to dethrone this beauty queen. According to other bloggers and Facebook users and even others may have observed that during the past Miss Universe pageant contestant's nationality is not a big deal on the competition. There was even this contestant who represented a country but it was really not her native homeland. And if ever honesty is what the BPCI points out against Raj, how come that it came up to this point when in fact Raj is very open about herself specially on her family issues. The government particularly the Human Rights Commission should take intervention regarding this matter. We cannot let our fellow Bicolana, friend, schoolmate and FILIPINO have this kind of karma that she doesn't deserve.

  1. my heart aches for Venus b'coz i believe that she has a good chance in MU and i admire her passion & determination to win the bb. pilipinas universe crown & she won based on her good performance in both the pre-pageant & coronation night. based on the stories abt her that we heard from our friend Nikette Henson, i can surmiss that Venus is a very nice person. i felt the sincerity in Nikette's voice every time she speaks highly of her "ate venus". i just hope that the filipino people, esp. Venus's supporters & fans alike, would realize that Nikette doesn't have a hand on the dethronement of her friend. both girls are sincerely happy for each other's accomplishment & i doubt it if they would wish each other harm. Venus was dethroned not because of issues on her nationality, she is a filipino w/o a doubt, regardless of the fact that she was born in Doha, Qatar & that her father is an Indian national. she was dethroned because a false statement or misrepresentation on her papers were discovered. on the 1st page of the 7 paged official bb. pilipinas 2010 application form, it is clearly stated under the line item abt personal information, that any false statement, misrepresentation or omission may be ground for disqualification. much has been said abt her dethronement, people from almost all walks of life has something to say abt it but so far liza berroya's comment (bb. pilipinas universe '92} is the one that sticks to my mind. allow me to quote a fraction of her comment " . . . I believe that it was wrong that Ma. VR’s birth certificate was falsified. Regardless of who did it. In my opinion it’s either you qualify or you don’t. If you have to tweak the truth here and there just to be able to comply with the pageant’s requirements, then you’re trying to fit a square peg in a round hole.

Pardon me for saying this, but the problem with our society today is that we’ve become much too permissive. We take lying so lightly that when we’re faced with issues such as these, people somehow blame Bb Pilipinas for not doing a thorough enough background check, while just glossing over the fact that it’s the contest’s obligation to be truthful. A beauty queen should be morally upright, a good role model for young women to emulate.

It’s sad that Ma. VR was dethroned. But whoever falsified those documents must have had an inkling that this could have happened way before the whole ugly truth was brought to light. For all you know, if they were up front with Bb. Pilipinas about the birth certificate from the start, Bb Pilipinas could have weighed the situation and still allowed Ma. VR to join. I hear she’s a strong contender for the Miss Universe title. I think, more than anyone, Bb Pilipinas would want the Philippines to produce another Miss Universe.

But when these issues come to light AFTER the coronation, Bb. Pilipinas doesn’t have much room to maneuver. At the end of the day, it’s Bb. Piipinas Charities’ prerogative whether or not to extend grace and still allow Ma. VR to keep her title. clearly, they’ve made their position known. Quite tactfully and lovingly, I might add.

So the short of the long of it is this: somebody lied, and this is the consequence of that lie.

  2. Thank you for your comment. though this hutrs me, still we have heard your opinion. what i can say is that let us just wait for the upcoming "blasts" to come...best regards to your friend nikette. ive been telling the people not to make negative comments against nikette. you can see it on the blog post that i made above...well, what i wanna say is that..venus is not a liar..i think u already watched her interview at the buzz...only that what happened is a mismatch of the truth that she is really born in qatar and the document that says she is born in the philippines..venus is a poor girl..its really hard for a poor family to change the document's content when in fact they don't have food for their family. try to be a person who lives in the province..and im sure its not just Venus who has this kind of case...anyway thank u again and God bless!!!add me namn on facebook...:)
